On August 1, 2018, in Farmington, New Mexico, 24-year-old Francine Delgado was fatally shot. Around 12:58 a.m., police responded to reports of gunfire near the 1100 block of South Bowen. Shortly thereafter, Delgado was dropped off at San Juan Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her lower back; she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Approximately 45 minutes later, 28-year-old Rebecca Jacquez arrived at the same hospital with a gunshot wound to her buttock; she was treated and released.
The investigation revealed that Delgado and Jacquez were shot when 42-year-old Pedro Lucero fired at the back of an SUV they occupied. Lucero was subsequently sought on charges including first-degree murder.
On August 7, 2018, U.S. Marshals located Lucero in Mesa, Arizona. When they attempted to arrest him on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Lucero tried to flee. During the confrontation, Marshals shot and killed him.
Francine Delgado was born on December 24, 1993, to Dorothy L. Delgado and Ponciano Enoches Delgado. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph M. Montoya and Maxie R. Montoya, and her grandparents. She is survived by her parents, siblings, nephews, nieces, and numerous extended family members and friends. A funeral service was held on August 7, 2018, in Farmington.
