On May 9, 2022, a domestic argument in a northeast Albuquerque home ended in the tragic death of 42-year-old Hispanic female, Misty Muniz. The events of that day unfolded after a verbal dispute between Muniz and her boyfriend, which had reportedly begun the previous day, turned violent. Witnesses to the altercation, which took place at a residence on Ortiz Dr. NE, stated that the couple had a history of fighting and that threats had been made against Muniz in the past.

According to accounts from those present, the argument escalated to a physical confrontation. A pop was heard from the room where Muniz and her boyfriend were, and he was then seen with a gun. Muniz had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Before fleeing the residence with the weapon and some of his belongings, the suspect acknowledged to witnesses that he had shot her. A 911 call was made by the suspect's sister, who reported that her brother had shot his girlfriend. When officers from the Albuquerque Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Misty Muniz deceased inside the home.

In the days following the shooting, the Albuquerque Police Department publicly identified 38-year-old Vicente Reyes as the suspect in the murder of Misty Muniz. An arrest warrant was issued, charging him with an open count of murder. Despite the charges and the public plea for information on his whereabouts, Vicente Reyes has not been apprehended. The case remains open, and authorities continue to seek information that could lead to his arrest. As of the latest available information, Reyes is still considered a fugitive from justice.
