On January 20, 2016, 27-year-old Myisha Monet Garcia was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound in a yard located at 4623 Eighth Street NW in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The discovery was made around 2 a.m. by a man working in the yard. Authorities promptly initiated a homicide investigation into Garcia's death.
On the same day, another woman, Abril Lozano, was fatally shot at 4441 Osuna Road NE in Albuquerque. The following day, investigators received an anonymous tip suggesting that the same individual was responsible for both murders. Lozano's boyfriend reportedly engaged in a struggle with the shooter and managed to recover the firearm used in the attack. Ballistic analysis later confirmed that the same gun was used in both Garcia's and Lozano's deaths.
Subsequently, Albuquerque police arrested Angel Celis in connection with the two homicides. Celis was charged with two counts of murder, along with additional charges including tampering with evidence. At the time of these charges, Celis was already incarcerated on unrelated offenses.
In a later incident, Celis was mistakenly released from the Metropolitan Detention Center but was quickly apprehended and returned to custody. The deaths of Garcia and Lozano, along with the subsequent arrest of Celis, drew significant attention within the Albuquerque community, highlighting concerns over violent crime in the area.
