In the winter of 2015, the city of Brockton, Massachusetts, was struck by a tragedy that claimed the lives of two brothers. David R. Afonso, a 26-year-old Black/African American man, and his older brother, Steven R. Afonso, were fatally shot on January 30, 2015. The brothers were sitting in a black Infiniti sedan near the intersection of Glenwood and Highland streets when the shooting occurred. After being shot, their vehicle crashed into a snowbank.
