On the evening of February 5, 2020, an act of gun violence in Lowell, Massachusetts, resulted in the death of 18-year-old Luis DeJesus. Lowell Police responded to reports of shots fired around 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of L and Coburn streets. Upon arrival, they discovered DeJesus suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation suggested that the actual shooting occurred near the
intersection of Jewett and West 4th streets, where a firearm was recovered. Authorities indicated that the incident was not a random act of violence. Around the same time, a second individual, a man in his 20s, was treated at a local hospital for non-fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators believed the two men knew each other and that the two shootings were connected.
An investigation was launched by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the Lowell Police Department, and the State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. This led to the identification of a suspect, Robert Rosa, a 25-year-old from Nashua, New Hampshire. Rosa was arrested and faced charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm, possession of ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. It was revealed that Rosa was the man who had been treated for gunshot wounds on the night of the incident and was allegedly involved in an altercation with DeJesus.
