On the evening of September 18, 2020, a burst of violence in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston claimed the life of Dennis Mejia, a 43-year-old White / Caucasian male from Canton. The incident, a triple shooting, unfolded around 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of Hammond and Westminster streets. When Boston police arrived at the scene, they discovered three men suffering from gunshot wounds.
While two of the victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Mejia's wounds were critical.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to them. The shooting sent ripples of concern through the community and prompted an intensive investigation by the Boston Police Department's Homicide Detectives.
For months, the case progressed without any public announcement of arrests. Then, on July 2, 2021, a significant development occurred. Boston Police arrested 22-year-old Andy Febres of Jamaica Plain in connection with the fatal shooting. Febres was apprehended in Revere and charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder. His arrest marked the first time charges had been filed in the case.
Despite this breakthrough, Febres was not accused of carrying out the murder of Dennis Mejia himself. As of the latest available information, no individual has been formally charged with Mejia's murder. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public to identify and bring to justice the person or persons directly responsible for the shooting.
