In the early morning hours of June 23, 2020, a young Black / African American man named Malik Gabbidon, 19, was fatally shot in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The incident occurred around 1:51 a.m. in the vicinity of 26 Thane Street, where police responded to a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found Gabbidon suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
The shooting reportedly stemmed from a dispute that began at a house party and escalated, spilling out into the street. Several months after the incident, on October 30, 2020, an arrest was made in connection with Gabbidon's death. Law enforcement officials took 21-year-old Cristian Rivera of Brockton into custody.
Rivera was subsequently charged with murder, carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Following his arrest, a prosecutor stated that Rivera and Gabbidon had been involved in the altercation that led to the fatal shooting. A judge ordered Rivera to be held without bail.
