In the early morning hours of October 11, 2018, the life of 19-year-old Marlon Richardson was tragically cut short in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. A Black male, Richardson was found by Boston police officers around 2:08 a.m. on Vinson Street, suffering from a gunshot wound. The officers were responding to a ShotSpotter activation in the area.
Emergency services rushed Richardson to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The case was quickly classified as a homicide, marking another instance of gun violence in the city. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross lamented the prevalence of guns on the street.
Despite the initial investigation and appeals to the public for information, no arrests have been made in connection with Marlon Richardson's death. The Boston Police Department lists his case among the unsolved homicides of 2018. Authorities had urged anyone with information to come forward and offered anonymous tip lines, but the search for a suspect or suspects has not yet led to a resolution in the case.
