On the late evening of February 10, 2022, the life of 22-year-old Fabio Andrade-Monteiro, a male, was tragically cut short in Brockton, Massachusetts. Just after 11 p.m., multiple 911 calls alerted Brockton Police to a shooting on Ash Street. Responding officers arrived at the scene to find Andrade-Monteiro in a driveway, suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound.
He was swiftly transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The investigation later revealed he had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head.
An intensive investigation into the homicide was launched by the Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office and the Brockton Police. Detectives pieced together the events of that night by interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and examining cell phone records. This meticulous police work led them to identify two teenage suspects from Brockton. Investigators discovered that just before the fatal shot was fired through the driver's side window, a witness heard Andrade-Monteiro mention a "green laser". Further investigation uncovered photographs of one of the suspects holding a black pistol equipped with a green laser in the days leading up to the incident.
The investigation resulted in the arrests of 17-year-old Tashawn Brown and 15-year-old Jeremy Depina. Brown was taken into custody first, followed by the arrest of Depina in Taunton. Both teenagers were charged with one count of murder in connection with the shooting death of Fabio Andrade-Monteiro. In subsequent court appearances, both Brown and Depina pleaded not guilty to the charges. They were indicted by a Plymouth County grand jury and later arraigned in Brockton Superior Court, where they were ordered to be held without bail as the legal proceedings against them continued.
