On July 20, 1993, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a fatal shooting occurred in Portland's Old Town neighborhood. Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot near the intersection of NW 6th Avenue and Burnside Street. One witness observed two African-American males and a white female approach a man known by the street name 'El Pelon.' After a brief conversation between one of the males and El Pelon, a shot was fired.
The assailant appeared to search through the victim's clothing before all three suspects fled the scene.
The victim was later identified as Lorenzo Satayal, an immigrant from Guatemala who had been residing intermittently in the United States. Satayal had a prior arrest for heroin possession.
The suspects were described as follows:
- Suspect #1: African-American male, early 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, 189 pounds, with Jheri curls, dressed in a black coat, black pants, plaid shirt, and low-top black tennis shoes.
- Suspect #2: African-American male, early 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, also with Jheri curls, dressed similarly to suspect #1.
- Suspect #3: White female, around 19 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, slender build, shoulder-length dishwater blonde hair with dark roots, wearing a jean jacket.
Despite the detailed witness accounts and descriptions of the suspects, no arrests have been made in connection with Satayal's murder. The case remains unsolved, and the Portland Police Bureau's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to seek information.
