In the early morning hours of August 6, 2022, a sense of disquiet settled over the East Columbia Neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Officers from the North Precinct were dispatched to the 1100 block of North Schmeer Road following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival at approximately 2:09 a.m., they discovered the body of a man, later identified as 53-year-old Otis Shayne Abner.
