On March 14, 2018, in Tenmile, Oregon, 36-year-old Jonathan James Ackerman was fatally shot. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office received a report of a probable homicide just before noon and responded to the 100 block of Hidden Hill Lane, where they confirmed the report.
The investigation led to the arrest of 70-year-old Tenmile resident James Teddy Deramus, who was charged with murder in connection with Ackerman's death. Deramus was taken into custody and lodged at the Douglas County Jail.
Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the shooting or the relationship between Ackerman and Deramus. The Douglas County Major Crimes Team, comprising detectives from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, Roseburg Police Department, and the Douglas County District Attorney's Office, continues to investigate the case.
