In the Humboldt neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, on the evening of April 19, 2021, the life of 20-year-old Calvin Jerome Jackson III was tragically cut short. A Black male with aspirations and a family, Jackson was fatally shot in an act of violence that sent shockwaves through his community. The shooting occurred at approximately 9:26 p.m. near North Albina Avenue and North Webster Street, where Portland Police officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a person who had been shot and did not survive.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed that Jackson died from gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide. At the time of the incident, his own three-year-old son was reportedly on the porch of the family home. His older brother recalled being on the phone with Jackson when the shots were fired. He was remembered by his family as a driven and ambitious young man who dreamed of a career in real estate, hoping to buy, fix, and flip houses. Described as a natural-born leader, he was the glue that held his loving family together and leaves behind two children.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police cordoned off the area to preserve evidence and search for witnesses, but no suspect information was immediately available. The investigation into Calvin Jackson's death is ongoing. Authorities have asked for the public's help, with Crime Stoppers of Oregon offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest in the unsolved felony crime. To date, there have been no publicly announced arrests or naming of any suspects in connection with his murder.
