Do you know who killed Timothy Hoyt in 1987? On September 28, 1987, the partially decomposed body of a male, identified as Timothy Hoyt, was discovered in a common dumping ground in Portland, Oregon. Two young men who were collecting bottles in the area happened upon his remains. The investigation into his death quickly determined that he had been the victim of a homicide.
Investigators learned that Timothy Hoyt was known to associate with people who used methamphetamine. He was last seen alive at a residence located at 9506 N.
Edison. In a turn of events that further complicated the investigation, this house was destroyed in an arson fire before detectives had the opportunity to search it. The condition of Hoyt's body indicated that he had been mutilated, though he was still recognizable. It is believed that he was not killed at the dump site where he was found, but rather his body was left there in an attempt to conceal the crime.
While no arrests have been made in the years following the discovery of Timothy Hoyt's body, the investigation did identify a person of interest. Authorities announced they were looking for John Macabee Geary, who also used the alias John Thorsinger. In 1987, Geary was described as a white male, standing 5'8" and weighing 160 pounds, with blonde hair and numerous tattoos on his arms and hands. At the time, it was believed he no longer resided in the Portland area. Detectives also expressed an interest in speaking with Joann N. Reed, also known as Debra Behe or Yo Yo, who was born in 1967 and whose mother lived in the area of 162nd and Powell. The case remains an unsolved homicide.
