On the evening of Friday, October 10, 2025, Andy Desravines, a 42-year-old man, was fatally shot in the Prospect Park South neighborhood of Brooklyn. The incident occurred just before 8:40 p.m. in front of an apartment building at 80 East 18th St., near Church Avenue. Desravines, a father of two, was reportedly returning home from his job with the New York City Parks and Recreation when the shooting took place.
He had just gotten off the train and was walking along East 18th Street.
Police from the 70th Precinct responded to a 911 call about an assault in progress and discovered Desravines with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and left leg. Emergency medical services rushed him to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His death came just two days before he would have turned 42. Those who knew him described Desravines as a hardworking and caring man who often looked after his mother, with whom he lived.
According to some residents in the area, an argument was heard just before the shooting. Surveillance video captured people in the vicinity turning toward a commotion moments before police arrived. While some neighbors believed the gunman was targeting someone else, one resident suggested that Desravines himself was the intended victim.
As of the days immediately following the shooting, no arrests had been made, and the New York Police Department's investigation was ongoing. The motive for the shooting remained unknown to the public. Police have urged anyone with information regarding the deadly shooting to contact them.
