Do you know who killed Terrence Demildenhall in 1986? On September 2, 1986, 22-year-old Terrence Demildenhall, a transient in Portland, Oregon, was found shot to death in his sleeping bag along the seawall in Waterfront Park, just north of the Morrison Bridge. Demildenhall had been last seen alive around 12:30 a.m., sleeping in the same location. His murder remains unsolved.
In a disturbing pattern, another transient, Fred Edgi, was found murdered in a similar fashion nearly six months later on February 27, 1987.
Edgi, a 36-year-old Native American man, was shot while sleeping under the Burnside Bridge, less than half a mile from where Demildenhall was killed. Investigators suspect the same individual may be responsible for both murders, given the striking similarities in the method and proximity of the crimes. Both men were known to have struggled with alcohol, and it is believed they were targeted while sleeping.
Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made in either case. The Portland Police Cold Case Unit continues to encourage anyone with information to come forward, with Crime Stoppers offering a reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
