In the early hours of New Year's Day 2022, a tragic shooting in Portland, Oregon, claimed the lives of two men, one of whom was 21-year-old Quayan Johnell Foster, a Black male. The incident, which also left a third man wounded, marked a grim start to the year for the city.
The shooting occurred at approximately 1:47 a.m. in the Argay Terrace neighborhood of Northeast Portland, in the 4400 block of Northeast 131st Place.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered three male victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, while another, later identified as Quayan Foster, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The third victim was also transported to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The other deceased victim was identified as Quayan's 43-year-old uncle, Andre Lashun Foster. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office conducted autopsies and determined that both Quayan and Andre Foster died from gunshot wounds and ruled their deaths as homicides. The family of the victims was notified and provided photographs of their loved ones for public release, while requesting privacy as they mourned their profound loss.
In the days following the shooting, the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit launched an investigation. However, no suspects were immediately identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the double homicide. The case remains unsolved, leaving a family and a community searching for answers and justice for the violent deaths of Quayan and Andre Foster. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
