On May 22, 2005, Eddrick Jamon Clark, an 18-year-old resident of Huntington, West Virginia, lost his life in a tragic and brutal incident that also claimed the lives of three other teenagers. The events unfolded in the early hours of the morning, following a prom night and subsequent celebrations.
Clark, along with his friends Donte Ward, Michael Dillon, and Megan Poston, were at a house that Donte Ward had rented.
Ward, who was about to turn 20, and Clark, who had just turned 19 at the stroke of midnight on May 22, were celebrating their birthdays together. Michael Dillon, 17, and Megan Poston, 16, had attended their prom earlier that evening and later joined Ward and Clark at the house after sneaking out of a lock-in after-party.
At approximately 4:30 AM, an unidentified person or persons opened fire on the group, resulting in the deaths of all four teenagers. The investigation that followed suggested that Donte Ward was likely the target of the shooting, possibly due to a dispute related to the drug trade. Clark, Dillon, and Poston were believed to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, becoming innocent victims of the violence.
The investigation into the murders led authorities to explore connections to the drug trade, both locally in Huntington and as far as Detroit. One individual who came under scrutiny was Cherylethia Bunny Holmes, a woman from Detroit. Holmes was suspected of ordering the hit, although she has denied any involvement. At the time of the murders, Holmes was not in custody, but she is currently serving a life sentence for ordering the murder of 31-year-old Wendy Morgan in 2008, a crime unrelated to the prom night shootings but also linked to drug and money disputes.
Despite the suspicions surrounding Holmes, there is no concrete evidence linking her to the crime. The actual shooter or shooters have never been identified or brought to justice. The case remains unsolved, leaving the families and community of Huntington without closure or justice for the tragic loss of these four young lives.
