In the small town of Leon, Iowa, a tragic event unfolded on January 16, 2010, ending the life of 20-year-old Ashley Singh. A female, Singh was shot to death in a violent confrontation with her fiancé, 21-year-old Brandan Broich. The deadly encounter took place in the home they shared at 305 South Main St.
The chain of events that culminated in this tragedy began to unfold when Ashley's younger sister, who lived with the couple, heard gunshots and promptly called 911 at 12:07 a.m.
When law enforcement from the Decatur County Sheriff's office arrived, they discovered the bodies of both Ashley Singh and Brandan Broich. The investigation, conducted by the sheriff's office, the Leon Police Department, and the Division of Criminal Investigation, concluded that Broich had shot Singh before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide.
Further investigation into the couple's history revealed a pattern of domestic turmoil. Court documents showed that in October 2008, Singh had sought and was granted a temporary protective order against Broich, citing domestic abuse. However, just a week later, she requested that the order be canceled. The couple had a 3-year-old son together, who was fortunately not at home at the time of the incident. At the time of her death, Singh was employed at Dollar General, while Broich worked as a carpenter for Boyd Construction. In the aftermath, a joint memorial service was held for the couple.
