In the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 15, 2015, the life of 28-year-old Matthew Quinton Banks, a Black male, was tragically cut short. Inside a residence located in the 1200 block of Jefferson Street in Burlington, Iowa, Banks was shot multiple times. He was rushed to the Great River Medical Center ER in West Burlington, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Burlington Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting death.
Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the case, 43-year-old Maurice Green. An arrest was made in Galesburg, Illinois, where Green was taken into custody. The authorities promptly charged Green with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Matthew Quinton Banks.
Following his arrest in Illinois, the legal process to have Maurice Green returned to Iowa to face the murder charge was initiated. He was expected to appear in Knox County Court to begin the extradition proceedings that would bring him back to the state where the crime occurred to answer for the killing of Matthew Quinton Banks.
