In the winter of 2018, the life of 26-year-old Javier Cheron was cut short in Sioux City, Iowa. On the evening of January 10th, police were called to a local hospital where Cheron had been brought with a gunshot wound. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting, which was deemed a homicide, led authorities to a residence on Jones Street. Police believed this to be the location where Cheron was shot.
A search of the home uncovered illegal drugs and several handguns, indicating a potential connection to drug trafficking.
During the search, authorities arrested 60-year-old Liborio Martinez-Rubio. He was subsequently charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. While an arrest was made in connection with the items found at the scene, no individual was immediately named as a suspect or charged directly with Javier Cheron's death.
At the time, the Sioux City Police Department stated that the investigation into the homicide was ongoing. However, in the years that have followed, no further public announcements have been made regarding any arrests or the identification of a suspect in the fatal shooting of Javier Cheron. His death marked the first homicide in Sioux City for the year 2018.
