On July 21, 2021, the body of 15-year-old Tyliyah L. Whitis from Peoria, Illinois, was found in a vehicle that had crashed at the Hawthorne Hill Apartments in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Police investigation revealed that Whitis had been shot at least once, and the vehicle had sustained significant damage.
