Mauricio Martinez, a 31-year-old Hispanic male, was found deceased on the morning of May 27, 2016, in a tragic turn of events that began with a robbery plot. Construction workers discovered his body in the passenger seat of a car parked at a Mountain America Credit Union in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. However, the investigation soon revealed that this was not the scene of the crime. The actual incident had unfolded earlier at a business parking lot located at 1032 S.
Redwood Road in Salt Lake City. An autopsy later confirmed that Mauricio Martinez had died from a gunshot wound to the neck.
The investigation into the death of Mauricio Martinez led to the identification of several suspects. Authorities determined that Martinez was the victim of a planned robbery that ultimately escalated to murder. Jorge Arturo Castanon-Serrano, 35, and Marco Antonio Garcia, 25, were the first to be arrested in connection with the crime. According to police, these two men admitted to planning to rob Martinez and another individual of money and a vehicle. Castanon-Serrano allegedly lured Martinez and the other person to the Redwood Road location. After they arrived and Castanon-Serrano was in the back seat of the car, other individuals approached, and several gunshots were fired from outside the vehicle. The driver of the car, who was an acquaintance of Martinez, sped away from the scene after the shooting. Realizing that Martinez was already dead, the driver abandoned the car with Martinez's body inside in the credit union parking lot where it was later found.
Further investigation led to the identification of two more suspects, Lucas Troy Neilson, 36, and Alfredo Lolani, 25, who were identified as the alleged gunmen in the fatal robbery. Both Neilson and Lolani were described as documented gang members and were considered armed and dangerous. Warrants were issued for their arrests, and they were subsequently charged with murder and aggravated robbery, the same charges filed against Castanon-Serrano and Garcia. A woman, Jamie Clarissa George, 34, was also named as a person of interest in the case, and police sought her for questioning. The four men, Jorge Arturo Castanon-Serrano, Marco Antonio Garcia, Lucas Troy Neilson, and Alfredo Lolani, all faced first-degree felony charges of murder and aggravated robbery for their roles in the death of Mauricio Martinez.
