On March 29, 2018, Brad Gukeisen, a 59-year-old Caucasian male, was found deceased in his apartment in Murray, Utah. Police were called to the Birkhill Apartments complex around 3:15 p.m. after reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered Gukeisen just inside the doorway of his residence with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led police to the apartment directly below Gukeisen's.
There, they found 70-year-old David Cunningham, Gukeisen's downstairs neighbor, deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators determined that a dispute between the two neighbors had escalated tragically.
Authorities concluded that Cunningham went to Gukeisen's apartment, shot and killed him, and then returned to his own apartment where he took his own life. The incident was classified as a murder-suicide. Police indicated that evidence confirmed the weapon used to kill Gukeisen belonged to Cunningham. While the exact motive for the dispute was not entirely clear, it was a tragic end to what police described as a neighborhood conflict. Gukeisen had reportedly only recently moved into the apartment complex and had posted on social media about how happy he was with his new home and the respectful people who lived there.
