On the evening of August 5, 2015, at approximately 10:24 p.m., New Haven police responded to reports of gunfire near a housing project on Bouchet Lane in the Eastern Street area. Upon arrival, officers discovered 35-year-old Lawrence Allen Atkins, a resident of Plymouth Street in New Haven, suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Atkins was transported to Yale–New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m.
