In the early morning hours of July 15, 2011, a well-known and respected barber, 34-year-old Steven Daniels Jr., was fatally shot outside an after-hours club in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood. An African American male, Daniels was known by the nickname 'Hollywood' and had a loyal clientele that followed him from his shop in Monroeville. His death left his family seeking justice and a community mourning the loss of a talented artist.
On the night of his death, Daniels was at the
Brushton Social 30-30 After-Hours Club on Frankstown Avenue. He was seen talking with a friend and a woman inside the club before they all stepped outside. Shortly after, a burst of gunfire erupted, and Daniels was struck multiple times in the head and torso. He was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital but was pronounced dead at 4:03 a.m.
Eyewitnesses provided a description of the shooter as a heavy-set, dark-complexioned Black male who wore a black mask that covered the lower part of his face. After the shooting, the gunman was seen fleeing the scene, running across Frankstown Avenue, and getting into what was believed to be an older model Chevy Camaro. Despite this information, a motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by investigators.
The case of Steven Daniels Jr.'s murder remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made. The Pittsburgh Police have continued to seek new leads in this cold case, and his family remains hopeful that answers and justice will one day be found.
