On the evening of May 31, 2018, a tragic event unfolded in New Haven, Connecticut, that cut short the life of 28-year-old Tyekqua Nesbitt, a Black female. Just before 11 p.m., in the area of Wintergreen Avenue and Wilmot Road, Nesbitt was shot and killed while sitting in her own car. The devastating act was made even more horrific by the fact that her two young children, aged six and eleven, were in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
