On the evening of February 3rd, seven-month-old Danielle Taft, an African American baby girl, was fatally wounded in a senseless act of violence. The infant was inside her home when a barrage of more than a dozen bullets was fired from the street, piercing through the walls of the apartment.
The same gunfire that extinguished young Danielle's life also struck her grandmother, Charlene Troutman, leaving her paralyzed.
The shocking nature of the crime, the death of an innocent child, sent ripples of fear and outrage throughout New Haven, drawing significant attention to the pervasive issue of urban gun violence. In the wake of the tragedy, the community mourned the profound loss of a life that had barely begun.
