In the early morning hours of June 23, 2021, the life of 37-year-old Siddhartha Lake-Sudan was tragically cut short in Hartford, Connecticut. A male, he was found on Bedford Street suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. The incident, which also left another man in his 20s with non-life-threatening injuries, was initially reported to police through a ShotSpotter activation at approximately 1:50 a.m.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect vehicle, leading to a police pursuit later that
morning. Around 11 a.m., officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Albany Avenue. The driver fled, resulting in a chase that ended with a crash at the intersection of Sigourney Street and Farmington Avenue. Two individuals were taken into custody following the crash.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 25-year-old Chan Williams-Bey Jr. Based on the investigation, authorities determined they had sufficient probable cause to connect him to the shooting. Williams-Bey was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, first-degree assault, and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was held on a $1.75 million bond. Friends and family remembered Lake-Sudan, sometimes known as "Buddha Child," as a kind, fun-loving, and genuine person.
