On a cold February morning in 2022, the life of 21-year-old Allison McCoy was tragically cut short in her Hartford, Connecticut apartment. In the early hours of February 7th, police responded to a call for medical assistance at her Evergreen Avenue residence. Inside, they discovered a grim scene: McCoy had been fatally shot multiple times while she slept. Another woman, her girlfriend, was also found with multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators quickly determined that the attack was not random, but a targeted event. It was revealed that McCoy was involved in selling marijuana and kept a significant amount of cash in a safe within her apartment. The night of the shooting, she had reportedly propped open a common door to the building, which allowed the assailants to gain entry. Surveillance footage from the apartment building captured two men entering that night. This footage became a crucial piece of evidence for the police in identifying the individuals responsible for the violent home invasion.

The investigation led to the arrests of two men: 25-year-old Troyquan Westberry and 19-year-old Ty-Jeir McCray. Both men faced serious charges, including murder and assault. As the legal process unfolded, it was learned that McCoy was acquainted with at least one of her attackers. In June 2023, Ty-Jeir McCray pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter with a firearm and first-degree assault. His plea resulted in a sentence of 20 years in prison, followed by 10 years of special parole.

Troyquan Westberry's case went to trial, where he was ultimately acquitted of the murder-related charges but was convicted of robbery. For his role in the crime that led to McCoy's death, he was sentenced to 11 years in prison, to be followed by five years of probation. The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings brought some measure of justice for the violent end to a young life.
