In March of 2013, the discovery of a woman's body in her apartment marked the first homicide of the year in Hartford, Connecticut. The victim was 59-year-old female, Sawarie Krichindath. Her daughter made the grim find on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the residence on 76 Main St. Police reports indicated that Krichindath had suffered from puncture wounds, suggesting she was likely stabbed to death.
The investigation quickly focused on a person of interest, the victim's 52-year-old
boyfriend, Robert White. The day after his girlfriend's body was discovered, on Sunday night, police arrested White and charged him with murder. He was subsequently held on a $1 million bond. This was not White's first encounter with the law, as he was a registered sex offender with a history of violence against women.
Robert White was convicted for the murder of Sawarie Krichindath and received a 50-year prison sentence. While serving this sentence, his violent past came further into focus. Through a cold case investigation, White was linked to the deaths of two other women in Hartford, dating back decades. In 2018, he confessed to the 1997 murder of Shiraleen Crawford and the 2012 slaying of Sonia Rivera. These confessions came on top of a 1980 manslaughter conviction for the beating death of Betty Robertson, also in Hartford, for which he had already served time. This established him as a serial killer responsible for the deaths of at least four women in the Hartford area over several decades.
