For years, her family was left to grapple with a fabricated story of her demise, having been told she perished in a car accident. The painful truth, however, was far more grim and would remain a haunting, unsolved mystery for decades to come.
On January 14, 1977, Therea's body was discovered in the backseat of a Cadillac in the parking garage of the Statler Hilton Hotel on Ford Street. She had been viciously stabbed between 40 and 50 times. At the time of her death, Therea was involved in sex work, a detail that led authorities to believe her murder could be connected to a string of other killings of sex workers in the Hartford area during that period. Despite this theory, the investigation into her death yielded no suspects, and no arrests were ever made.
The passage of time has not eased the pain for Therea's family. Her brother, Kevin Wilson, has spoken of the tragic day replaying in his mind, a constant and painful reminder of the sister he lost.
