In a tragic turn of events on the evening of July 17, 2023, 64-year-old Black / African American female Carolyn Diane Dee Williams was killed in her Hartford, Connecticut, home. The incident, which unfolded on Oakland Terrace, has been characterized by police as a fatal domestic violence episode. Authorities were dispatched to the residence after receiving a distressing 911 call from Williams, during which she reported being assaulted. The call took a horrifying turn when she screamed that her attacker had a sawed-off shotgun before the line was tragically cut short by the sound of a gunshot.
Upon their arrival, police discovered Williams's adult son on the porch with a head injury, having allegedly been pistol-whipped by the suspect. Inside the home, officers found Carolyn Williams deceased from a gunshot wound to her chest. In the living room, they located 63-year-old Lance Logan, who was reportedly in a dating relationship with Williams. He was found sitting on a sofa with the suspected murder weapon, a sawed-off shotgun, on a nearby coffee table. Logan was taken into custody without further incident.
Lance Logan was subsequently arrested and faced a slew of charges, including murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and second-degree assault with a firearm. It was also discovered that he was under a protective order, leading to an additional charge for its violation. Logan has a documented history of domestic violence convictions. His bond was set at $3 million. The death of Carolyn Williams, a woman who had worked in the medical field for many years and was remembered for her warm greetings and smiles, marked Hartford's 17th homicide of 2023.
