On May 16, 2016, at approximately 10:30 p.m., 23-year-old Alysha Ocasio of Newington, Connecticut, was fatally shot in Hartford's South End. Responding to reports of gunfire near Campfield Avenue and Cowles Street, police discovered two victims: 22-year-old Joshua Cortez, lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the head, and Ocasio, found in a nearby parked car with multiple gunshot wounds to her torso.
