In the quiet community of Unionville, Connecticut, the life of 32-year-old Hispanic man, Jorge Tejada Camacho, was abruptly ended on the night of March 16, 2022. He was in his bed at his Sunset Terrace home when the unimaginable happened. The tranquility of the evening was shattered by the sound of gunshots, forever altering the lives of those in the residence.
Living in the home with Camacho was his fiancée and her brother, 24-year-old Deondre Linder.
According to Camacho's fiancée, she was woken by her brother's voice uttering the ominous words, "I know what you did," immediately followed by the sound of three to four gunshots. When she turned on the light, she discovered Camacho covered in blood. While she called 911, Linder fled the scene in Camacho's car. Two children were also in the home at the time but were in a separate room and unharmed.
Emergency services transported Camacho to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, but he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead shortly after midnight. In the meantime, police had located Linder driving Camacho's vehicle. They pursued him onto Interstate 84, where they were able to stop the car and take him into custody.
Deondre Linder was arrested and charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, first-degree reckless endangerment, and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. The motive for the shooting appears to stem from a domestic issue; Camacho had reportedly told Linder that he had two weeks to find a job or he would have to move out of the home. Linder was held on a $1 million bond.
