On a Tuesday morning in Waterbury, Connecticut, a young man's life was cut short in a burst of violence. Jordan Javon Savage, a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot on September 13, 2022. The incident that claimed his life unfolded in the parking lot of the Colonial Grocer on Colonial Avenue.
Following the shooting, Jordan was privately transported to Waterbury Hospital.
Despite the efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly before 11 a.m., just as police officers were arriving at the emergency room in response to a report of a gunshot victim. Investigators were able to trace the crime scene back to the grocery store parking lot where the shooting had occurred.
In the wake of the homicide, the Waterbury Police Department launched an investigation that led them to identify a suspect. Gelson Cruz, then 22 years old, was named as the individual wanted in connection with Jordan's death. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of murder, criminal use of a weapon, illegal transfer of a pistol or revolver, and carrying a pistol without a permit.
The search for Cruz extended beyond Connecticut, culminating in his capture in Puerto Rico. In a significant development in the case, Cruz was extradited back to Waterbury at the end of November 2022 to face the charges against him. He was held on a $2 million bond, bringing a measure of progress in the quest for justice for Jordan Savage and his grieving loved ones.
