In a quiet Pine Bluff, Arkansas neighborhood, a sense of unease settled when family members could not reach 58-year-old Deborah Lynn Moncrief and her companion, 62-year-old Anthony Branch. The silence was broken on the morning of July 11, 2014, when Branch's daughter, concerned after not hearing from them for several days, made a grim discovery at Moncrief's home on Cowboy Drive. Inside, both Deborah, a White female, and Anthony were found deceased.
The initial scene was perplexing to investigators, as there were no immediate signs of trauma on either of the victims, leaving the cause of their deaths a mystery.
As the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office delved into the case, the peaceful community was shaken by the news of a double homicide. The focus of the investigation soon turned towards a man with a familial connection to one of the victims, a 21-year-old from Mississippi named William Cody Childress. He was engaged to Deborah Moncrief's own niece.
