In the spring of 2023, the city of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was rocked by a violent act that claimed the lives of two young people. On the evening of March 7th, gunshots erupted at the Sunset Village Apartment complex, forever altering the lives of two families. When police arrived, they discovered a tragic scene. Eighteen-year-old Asharray Thomas and sixteen-year-old Julian Andre Tolbert had both been fatally wounded in the exchange of gunfire, their promising futures abruptly cut short.
Two other individuals were also injured in the incident but survived.
The Pine Bluff Police Department's Detective Division quickly launched an investigation into the double homicide, which was the city's fifth and sixth of the year. Their efforts soon identified several suspects, all of them young men. Warrants were issued for the arrests of Dashon Cobbs Jr., Quentine Lowe, Kenon Smith, and Kavon Bledsoe on charges of capital murder. The search for these individuals began, with law enforcement agencies working to bring them into custody and deliver justice for Asharray and Julian.
The investigation progressed with the subsequent apprehension of the named suspects. The community was left to grapple with the senseless loss of two of its young members. Asharray Thomas, remembered as a loving and kind person who attended Dollarway High School, became yet another victim of the gun violence that continues to plague communities across the nation. Her death, alongside that of Julian Andre Tolbert, serves as a somber reminder of the devastating impact of such violent acts on individuals, families, and the community as a whole.
