In a case that highlighted a history of domestic turmoil, 36-year-old Megan Price, a female from North Little Rock, Arkansas, was found deceased in her home on a Sunday in late June of 2015. Price, who was eight months pregnant with her third child, had been fatally shot. The grim discovery was made by her oldest daughter just after 11 a.m. in their residence on North Oaks Lane. Friends and colleagues described Price as a hardworking and beloved individual who was passionate about her job as a hairstylist and owned a salon in Little Rock called Priceless. They expressed that being a mother was her greatest passion, and she was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her new baby, with a baby shower planned just two weeks after her death.

The investigation into Price's death quickly focused on her tumultuous, on-and-off relationship of about 12 years with 36-year-old Quenton King. Ten days after the discovery of Price's body, North Little Rock Police arrested King in connection with the homicide, following numerous tips from the community. He was subsequently charged with two counts of capital murder, one for the death of Megan Price and another for her unborn child. Investigators noted that it was standard procedure to look into family members in such cases.

Court documents and police reports revealed a troubled history between Price and King, marked by allegations of domestic violence. In 2011, King had been charged with the attempted capital murder of Price and her daughters, as well as arson and terroristic threatening, after allegedly setting fire to her home and business. Those charges were later dropped when Price changed her statement. Over the years, both Price and King had filed for orders of protection against each other, though most were eventually dropped. At the time of her murder, there was no active order of protection against King. Price's mother described her daughter as a 'battered woman that was afraid to do what she needed to do to survive.' Following his arrest, King pleaded not guilty to the capital murder charges, and a trial date was set.
