In the early morning hours of Valentine's Day in 2018, a tragedy unfolded in the parking lot of the L'Oreal cosmetics plant in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Chasity Denise Cannady, a 19-year-old female employee, was shot and killed while sitting in her vehicle. The incident was reported to the North Little Rock Police Department shortly after 3 a.m.

Investigators determined that Cannady was the victim of a murder-suicide perpetrated by a coworker, 32-year-old Jim Gilot. After shooting Cannady, Gilot then took his own life. The authorities investigated the circumstances surrounding the event but were unable to immediately establish a motive for the tragic actions. Police stated that Cannady and Gilot were not involved in a romantic relationship and were considered to be simply coworkers in the same area of the plant.

At the time of her death, Chasity was a resident of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She had been born on June 7, 1998, and had accepted Christ at an early age, attending College Heights Church.
