In the winter of 2018, the life of 23-year-old Devon Howard was tragically cut short in Little Rock, Arkansas. On the evening of February 15th, a loud knock at the door of his Eagle Nest apartment interrupted a quiet evening at home. When Devon answered, individuals forced their way inside. Witnesses reported hearing the intruders demanding money, followed by the sound of a gunshot. Devon was found deceased on his apartment floor, the victim of a fatal shooting.
At the time of his death, he was eagerly anticipating the birth of his daughter.
The investigation into Devon's murder continued for nearly two years without any named suspects, leaving his family and his girlfriend, who was pregnant with their child, in a state of uncertainty. His daughter, named Devin in his honor, was born just one month after his untimely death. The case remained a painful open wound for his loved ones, who pleaded for anyone with information to come forward to bring those responsible to justice.
A significant breakthrough in the case came in January 2020 when Jacovan Bush was arrested. His arrest was the result of a DNA match from blood evidence that had been collected at the scene of the crime. The subsequent legal proceedings revealed that Bush's blood was found on a kitchen countertop in Devon's apartment. In March 2023, a jury found Jacovan Bush guilty of capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, aggravated robbery, and theft of property. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, bringing a measure of closure to a case that had haunted a family and community for years.
