In a tragic incident in Little Rock, Arkansas, a five-year-old boy named Brennen Esau lost his life. The young male died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The event occurred on a Saturday evening, September 22, 2018, inside his home on Wycliffe Drive. At the time of the incident, Brennen was at home with his three older siblings, who were 6, 10, and 14 years old.
His mother was not present when the shooting took place.
According to the Little Rock Police Department, Brennen was alone in a room when he discovered his mother's firearm. While playing with the gun, he accidentally shot himself. His siblings heard the gunshot, initially thinking it came from outside. Upon searching the house, they found their younger brother critically injured and immediately ran to a neighbor for help. Despite the quick response, Brennen was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities who arrived shortly after.
Investigators learned that the boy's mother had stored the gun and its magazine separately. However, it is believed that a single round may have unknowingly been left in the chamber of the weapon. Following the incident, the police stated that a report would be compiled for the prosecutor's office to review and determine whether any charges would be filed in connection with the fatal accident. No immediate arrests were made following the little boy's death. Neighbors remembered Brennen as a friendly and outgoing child who enjoyed playing basketball.
