In the late afternoon hours of a December day in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, a heated argument between two men escalated into a fatal encounter. Brandy Crutchfield, a 29-year-old male, was in the parking lot of an apartment complex on South Olive Street when the dispute turned violent. On December 17, 2018, the sound of gunshots echoed through the area, and when police arrived at approximately 4:45 p.m., they discovered Crutchfield suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical
attention was rendered, but Crutchfield's injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the city's nineteenth homicide of the year began immediately. Law enforcement officers at the scene also found 26-year-old Daryll Broady, who was promptly taken into custody. Investigators believe an argument between Crutchfield and Broady preceded the deadly shooting.
During the initial investigation, two pistols and several shell casings were recovered from the parking lot. Detectives interviewed Broady, and no other suspects were sought in connection with the shooting. Subsequently, the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office announced that there was probable cause to arrest Broady on charges of First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Certain Person. A judge set his bond at $250,000.
