On March 1, 2021, 15-year-old Daylon "DaeDae" Burnett was fatally shot at Watson Chapel Junior High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The incident occurred during the school's first day of in-person learning following pandemic-related closures. Burnett, a cadet in the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC), was shot by his classmate, Thomas Quarles, in a hallway of the school.
