In the summer of 2021, a domestic dispute in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, tragically cut short the life of 21-year-old Me'Akel Lendun Martin. On July 17th, at a residence on Belmoor Avenue, Martin was fatally shot. His 55-year-old mother also suffered from gunshot wounds during the incident but ultimately survived her injuries. Me'Akel, a Black / African American male, was born on January 10, 2000, to Michael L. Martin and Cynthia D. Harris Kimble.

When Pine Bluff police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Martin and his mother wounded. The individual suspected of the shooting was still at the residence and was engaged in a physical altercation with another person when law enforcement entered. He was promptly taken into custody.

Authorities later confirmed that the suspect in custody was the son of the surviving victim and the brother of Me'Akel Lendun Martin. He was arrested on a potential charge of first-degree murder. The shooting marked the 14th homicide in Pine Bluff for that year. Me'Akel Martin was a father to four daughters: Ma'Kiya, Ma'Kayla, Nevaeh, and Zi'leigh. Funeral services were held on July 27, 2021, at Brown Funeral Home in Pine Bluff.
