On the evening of April 7, 2022, at approximately 6:56 p.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a shooting incident at a residence in the 3100 block of Eva Drive, near the Hardin Community in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Anthony Alexander, who had been fatally shot. Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher pronounced Alexander deceased at the scene.
The body was subsequently sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
A person of interest present at the scene was detained for questioning. The individual was later identified as 51-year-old Charlie Andrew Irvin. Following the investigation, Irvin was arrested and charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence. He was booked into the W.C. 'Dub' Brassell Detention Center. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division continued to investigate the incident, seeking additional information from the public.
Anthony Alexander, known as 'AJ' to his family and friends, was born on September 4, 1988, to Angela Herrera and Anthony Alexander, Sr. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Earlee Brown and Paulette Gilmore, and his grandfathers, C.G. Alexander and Jesse Alander. He is survived by his parents, siblings Vanessa Suggs, Shaneika Jackson, Brandon Alexander, and Brianna Wilson; two children, D'Anthony Alexander and Tacon Artis; and several nieces and nephews. AJ was remembered for his unconditional love and the realness he brought to those around him.
