In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a neighborhood on East 6th Avenue. When police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 11:30 p.m. on April 26, 2020, they discovered a tragic scene inside a residence. Thirty-seven-year-old Terrance D. Givens, a Black male, was found deceased, a victim of the barrage of bullets that had torn through the home.
The violence of that night was not limited to Terrance Givens.
A four-year-old girl, also a member of the family, was critically injured in the drive-by shooting and was rushed to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. A third relative, a 34-year-old man identified as Roderick Givens, Terrance's cousin, was also wounded in the attack but was expected to recover from his injuries. The house itself was riddled with numerous rounds, a testament to the indiscriminate nature of the assault.
In the days that followed the shooting, community leaders gathered to mourn the senseless loss of life, placing memorial crosses at the scene as a call to end the violence plaguing the city. The deaths of Terrance Givens and the young child marked the 7th and 8th homicides in Pine Bluff for that year. Law enforcement officials began their investigation into the double homicide, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and capture of those responsible.
Despite the efforts of the Pine Bluff Police Department and the offer of a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction, the case has remained unsolved. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the drive-by shooting that claimed the lives of Terrance Givens and a young child. The community was left to grapple with the tragedy, while the perpetrators of the violent act remain at large.
