In the early morning hours of a cold December day in North Little Rock, Arkansas, a tragic series of events unfolded that would claim the life of a young man. On December 29, 2018, police responded to a call around 4:15 a.m. about a person lying in the roadway in the 2900 block of Pike Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Wesley M. Everett suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
The death of Wesley M. Everett, a male, was classified as the 16th homicide in North Little Rock for the year 2018. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement had no information on a potential suspect. However, their investigation continued, and just over a week later, there was a significant development in the case.
On January 9, 2019, the North Little Rock Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with Everett's death. Afan E. Humphrey, who was also 19 years old at the time, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. Following his arrest, Humphrey was held at the Pulaski County Detention Center without bond.
