On the evening of March 23, 2019, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 30-year-old Odell L. Lankford III was fatally shot following a street altercation. Police responded to reports of gunfire and a disturbance around 7:10 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Roane Avenue. As officers approached, additional shots were heard. Upon arrival, they found Lankford lying in the street with at least one apparent gunshot wound.
