Corenthia Davie, a 32-year-old Black male, was shot on the evening of March 26, 2020, at College Station Community Park just outside Little Rock. Deputies with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6 p.m. and found Davie suffering from a gunshot wound; he was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities noted it was the county’s first homicide of the year.
Witnesses described a large gathering at the park that spilled into a fight near the basketball courts before gunfire erupted. The chaotic scene scattered bystanders and left investigators piecing together what started as a dispute and ended with Davie mortally wounded.
Within hours, detectives made an arrest. On March 27, 2020, deputies took 18-year-old Derek Jermaine Parks into custody and booked him on a first-degree murder charge; he was held in the Pulaski County jail without bond as the investigation continued.
A second suspect was identified the next day. On March 28, 2020, authorities arrested 19-year-old Steve Cokley III in connection with the same shooting, charging him with criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Local coverage at the time underscored that both arrests stemmed from the violence at College Station Community Park that claimed Davie’s life.
